Portrait : Julien & Django

Les Néréides Loves Animals met Julien, an actor who lives in Paris with Django. A charming and atypical duo that seduced the association.

Who is he?

Django, age 7, St Bernard

Can you tell us about your first meeting?

Five years ago, my then-girlfriend visited an organic farm where a breeder was “exhibiting” dogs. She immediately fell in love with Django and decided to adopt him. Knowing my love of dogs, she was quick to call me so I could see him. I remember him sheepish and clumsy in his big body. A bit like Tom Hanks in the movie “Big”. A child who wakes up one morning in the body of an adult. At 3 months he was already bigger than a labrador and he was spilling everything on the coffee table with his tail.

What’s his best quality?
As strange as it may seem, I would say his humor. Even if it is not on purpose. He often has reactions and attitudes that a human could have, he is very expressive.

What’s his biggest flaw?

Despite his big body, he is afraid of a lot of things, he becomes almost paranoid.

Does he have a nickname and if so, why?

He has plenty of them: Djangoniño, Jean-Guy, Jean Guitou, big dog. Because it makes me laugh to give him ridiculous nicknames.

What does his presence bring you on a daily basis?

Laughter, hugs, his presence (even if I sometimes forget about it) and comfort when I need it.

– Which rescue did you go through to find him?

None. It turned out that my ex found herself overwhelmed by Django who was too powerful for her, too cumbersome for her new apartment and incompatible with her new professional rhythm. He ended up in a kind of boarding school for St. Bernard, which she paid every month while waiting to rehome him. I was often thinking of him and as I had always wanted a dog, I decided to adopt him. So I went to get him in this shelter, where I doubt about the good treatment of the animals.

Like Django, many dogs and cats are waiting to be adopted in shelters, so if you want a pet, consider adopting rather than shopping 😉
