Action : Rescue Animals of North Africa

The association Rescue Animals of North Africa (RANA) was created in 2013 by Florence Heath and Michaela Hutchinson. Florence and Michaela met in Tripoli in 2008, while they both worked there, and soon discovered a common passion for animals. After moments complicated by revolutions and post-war situations, they began to work together in North Africa. After their return to the UK, they decided to set up a structure to help animals.

The main objectives of RANA are to help sterilization campaigns in the field and relocate animals in Europe, mainly in the UK, to bring them to the better life they deserve after the horrors they have been through. Their long-term goal is to influence local governments to stop their cruel and ineffective shooting campaigns and replace them with “Trap / Neuter / Release” campaigns to help control stray animals.

Like many associations, RANA operates through volunteer animal loving, and most of their spending resides in veterinary bills in Tunisia and the UK, and transportation costs.

Nereides Loves Animals helped RANA with the amount of € 2,000, bringing 5 animals back to the UK (3 dogs and 2 cats), vaccinating and sterilizing 12 cats, paying for rabies serology, helping to improve the feeding area in the dogs shelter, and rescue and cure a young wounded dog for a whole month!
